Windows VPS vs dedicated server
A VPS gives you a virtual slice of a powerful machine. A dedicated server gives you the whole machine. The right choice depends on how much power you need and how much you want to spend.
The difference in one line
A dedicated server is a whole physical computer that only you use. A VPS is a virtual server that runs on a physical computer shared with other customers.
Side by side
| Windows VPS | Dedicated server | |
|---|---|---|
| Hardware | Share of a physical server | The whole physical server |
| Price | Lower | Much higher |
| Setup | Usually ready in under an hour | Can take longer |
| Resources | Fixed amount per plan | Everything the machine has |
| Performance consistency | Good, but a busy neighbor can affect it | Highest, nobody shares it |
| Upgrades | Move to a bigger plan | Often a new machine |
| Best for | Most small and medium workloads | Very heavy or constant workloads |
What "sharing" means in practice
On a VPS, the host divides a physical machine between customers. Each customer gets a set amount of memory and storage, and CPU time. Most of the time you will not notice the other customers. Very heavy use by a neighbor can sometimes make performance less steady, which is the main trade-off of a VPS.
FOMZE plans are VPS plans. We do not sell dedicated servers.
Choose a VPS if
- you run office tools, business apps, scheduled tasks or small services
- you want to start small and move up later
- you want the lowest monthly cost
- you need a server quickly
Choose a dedicated server if
- you run very heavy workloads all day, such as large databases or many users at once
- you need every bit of the machine's performance, with no sharing
- you have strict rules about who may share your hardware
For most people who find this page, a VPS is the better value. Read how to choose a plan to match your needs to a size.
Frequently asked questions
Is a dedicated server faster than a VPS?
A dedicated server can be more consistent, because nobody else uses the machine. A well-sized VPS is fast enough for most work.
Can I move from a VPS to a bigger one later?
Yes. Contact support when you need more power and we will help you move to a larger plan.
Which is cheaper?
A VPS is much cheaper. A dedicated server costs far more per month.
